My New Baby

We have a new addition to our household and her name is Lilly. We are smitten with her and so is Charlie, our terrier mix. Charlie, by the way, is a rescue dog from the animal shelter, having come to them when his owner died. We were lucky to get him when we did as he really helped to comfort us when Callie, our golden retriever, passed away. Then Lilly came into our lives. I had not intended to get a puppy because puppies are a lot of work, as you know. But when I saw her, I couldn't resist bringing her home and she has been a real joy. Isn't she a cutie? Hope you'll bear with me, because I will probably be talking a lot about Lilly in the weeks to come.

Highlight of the Dallas Quilt Show

If you attended the Dallas Quilt Show in mid-March, you know that our very own Sally Magee won Best of Show for her Little Brown Bird quilt (see 8/23 post below). We are so proud and happy for her! Congratulations, Sally! Sally's quilt has also been accepted in the Paduka Quilt Show and she has been notified that she is a semi-finalist. If she wins and accepts the award, Little Brown Bird will become a part of the Paduka Quilt Museum. What an honor!

We just posted our new Winter/Spring 2010 schedule on our website today. Click here to view it. We have some absolutely gorgeous new blocks-of-the-month, such as the one you see here, starting in January. In addition, our clubs are offering new choices and we have some fun classes lined up. Don't you just love the new quilt, The Farmer's Wife, that is on the new schedule? It represents the life of farm women in the 1920s. I will be working with you to make this quilt and will share real stories of some of the women of that time. Come by and see all our new offerings and, while you're here, sign up for a new project!

We Have a Winner!

Congratulations to one of our customers and club members, Sally Magee, for winning Best of Show in the Plano Quilt Celebration last week. Her stunning quilt, Brown Bird's Lullaby, also won the Mayor's Award and took 1st place in its category. Sally's skill at both piecing and quilting is evident (the quilt was completed with a combination of both hand and machine quilting) and received praise from many of the show's attendees as well as the judges. We in the Brown Bird Club are very proud of her!

Hi everyone, and welcome to our new blog! I'm excited to share information with you in this format. We will use our blog to keep you up-to-date on the latest happenings at Suzy's. Feel free to leave comments about our posts and also about the shop.

For those of you who don't know us, we are a large quilt shop located on the square in downtown Garland, TX. This is my 20th year in business and we are still going strong! If you haven't made a trip to Suzy's, what are you waiting for? Seriously, we hope to see you very soon. If you love quilting and reproduction fabric as much as we do, you will love what our shop has to offer.
